The Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (@OSCE) promotes cooperation in the military, economic and humanitarian spheres among its member states from different continents. It was founded on the belief that security must be based on democracy, respect for human rights and the international legal order.   This week, hundreds of parliamentarians from Europe, North America and Central Asia are gathering in The Hague for the OSCE’s annual meeting. For instance, on my arrival I had a brief meeting with US senators from both parties. During the official opening this afternoon, I spoke about the importance of continued support for Ukraine. Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine undermines the OSCE’s mission. Ukraine is defending not only its own security, but also that of Europe, and the principles that form the basis of the international legal order.   The OSCE has the potential to act as a bridge between East and West, a forum where, despite our differences, we can come together to bolster our security, democracy and prosperity.
