‘Satoshi Nakamoto Bitcoin Ownership Case’ Sees Major Development, Bitcoin Policy Institute Joins Defense Team Galaxy Research Director Alex Thorn stated that the ‘Abandoned Bitcoin’ case has made new progress: the Bitcoin Policy Institute (BPI) has applied to intervene as a defendant and plans to request the court to dismiss the lawsuit. The plaintiff, ‘Noah Doe,’ is attempting to use legal proceedings to claim Bitcoin allegedly belonging to Satoshi Nakamoto. BPI argues that the claim that ‘long-term inactivity equals abandonment’ could pose a threat to long-term self-custody users; a public address does not equate to asset ownership, and holding Bitcoin for an extended period might simply be a HODL strategy. Previously, ‘John Doe 33’ denied any association with the address holding 5,000 BTC, and The Digital Chamber also submitted an amicus brief opposing the plaintiff’s claims.
