The Iran conflict has hindered the transportation of Qatar's LNG through the Strait of Hormuz, forcing Pakistan to increase spot purchases. Pakistan plans to purchase at least one ship of spot goods for delivery in July, and may purchase up to six ships of goods for delivery in August. Muhammad Awais Ashraf, head of research at AKD Securities, stated that the hot summer weather and reduced solar power generation have driven up electricity demand, forcing Pakistan to increase its dependence on LNG power generation. This week, the Pakistani government purchased one shipment of goods at the highest spot price since 2022, and has already purchased a total of four shipments of goods delivered in July.
