Wisconsin warns election contract traders, Kalshi claims it suppresses voters

The Wisconsin Election Commission has stated that residents who purchase election related contracts in Kalshi or Polymarket may lose their eligibility to vote in the same election, and knowingly voting without eligibility may constitute a Class I felony. The head of the Kalshi election department, Benjamin Freeman, stated that the guidelines are unconstitutional and illegal. Robert DeVault, the head of enforcement and legal counsel at Kalshi, stated that the CFTC certification and election market provided by federally regulated exchanges are legitimate. A spokesperson for Polymarket stated that the company will respond to the committee's statement through legal proceedings. Both Kalshi and Polymarket argue that their products belong to tradable financial contracts.
