The 79th Vault official stated that on October 7th, due to a defect in account permission management, the operator's private key was leaked. The attacker extracted 79AU tokens and exchanged them for USDT and BNB, causing a loss of approximately $12.5 million. The team has fixed permissions and contracts, and is currently negotiating a white hat settlement with the attacker.

[CZ: Response to Vitalik's Discussion on AI and Cryptographic Security] CZ responded on the X platform to Vitalik's article about how AI-accelerated mathematical research might impact cryptographic security. He humorously remarked that Vitalik's math skills score 99.99 points, while his own score is 0.01 points, joking that perhaps the two of them together could achieve something. CZ stated that even if people don't fully understand Vitalik's article, it's still worth reading such an interesting analysis and discussion. Previously, Vitalik Buterin had published an article warning that AI-accelerated mathematical research could, within the next two years, weaken the security of lattice-based cryptographic systems, including technologies like ML-DSA and fully homomorphic encryption (FHE). He also noted that it might even pose a risk to breaking ECDSA. As a result, Ethereum's Lean roadmap has shifted toward a pure hash-based signature scheme.

The Finance Committee of the French National Assembly is reviewing ten cryptocurrency amendments in the 2027 budget, including a tax on stablecoin exchange transactions, a cryptocurrency exit tax, and a 10-year measure to carry forward cryptocurrency losses. The proposal to extend the personal wealth tax to cryptocurrency has been rejected, and some self custodial wallet declarations and platform fines are still under consideration. These measures have not yet become law. (Source: Journal du Coin)

The Ethereum Glamsterdam upgrade was activated on the Sepolia testnet on October 6th, raising the block gas limit to 200 million, approximately 3.3 times the current main network's 60 million gas. The upgrade includes 18 EIPs, introduces a mechanism for separating proposers and builders within the protocol, supports parallel client verification, and increases the upper limit of smart contract code size. Ethereum Foundation researcher Tony Valstedt stated that after the upgrade, the client execution efficiency has been improved, and the time for Geth to process 40 million Gas blocks has been reduced from about 115 milliseconds to 30 milliseconds. Glamsterdam is expected to be deployed on the Hoodi test network on October 27th, with the main network upgrade target set for the fourth quarter of 2026.
