According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple CEO Tim Cook lobbied US President Trump, the US Secretary of Commerce, and the Treasury Secretary to apply for approval to use storage chips from Changxin Storage and Changjiang Storage on products such as iPhones and Macs sold overseas. Micron executives have warned the government that the relaxation of China's storage chip procurement will impact the domestic storage industry in the United States. Micron has proposed to rely on its own $250 billion domestic expansion plan to solve the supply gap. Changxin Storage and Changjiang Storage have been included in the list of military related enterprises by the United States. The opposition between Apple and Micron's demands has put the Trump administration in a policy dilemma of balancing consumer market costs and protecting the local semiconductor industry.
