Researchers from the People's Public Security University of China have developed an AI framework that can detect illegal cryptocurrency transactions with approximately 90% accuracy. The study was published in the Journal of Intelligence, and corresponding author Dr. Jingchao Sun stated that the research provides a precise, scalable, and interpretable solution for detecting illegal cryptocurrency transactions. This AI framework utilizes memory modules and large language models to track money laundering behavior based on the anonymity and cross-border characteristics of cryptocurrencies. The Supreme People's Procuratorate of China disclosed in March this year that the procuratorial organs have prosecuted 3259 people for money laundering crimes involving virtual currencies and underground banks throughout 2025.
