The firmware vulnerability of Coldcard wallet resulted in the theft of approximately 2000 BTC, with a loss scale of about 130 million US dollars. After the incident, the US spot Bitcoin ETF had a net inflow of approximately $626 million within a few days. Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas stated that security incidents have driven funds towards ETFs. Casa co-founder Jameson Lopp stated that third-party custody carries risks. Peter Todd, an early developer of Bitcoin Core, believes that self hosted security records are superior to centralized institutions. Michael Tanguma, co-founder of Onramp, proposed a multi institutional custody solution, which sparked controversy over the concept of decentralization.
