Trump extends Jones Act shipping exemption for 90 days, shifting scope to energy transportation

According to Jin Shi, US President Trump has extended the Jones Act shipping exemption for 90 days and adjusted its scope to focus on energy transportation such as gasoline, aviation fuel, crude oil, naphtha, liquefied natural gas, soybean oil, and fertilizers. The Pentagon needs to consult with the United States Maritime Administration before deciding whether to exempt a single voyage. The White House stated that the exemption will help ensure that the US military and critical industries have access to resources and increase domestic transportation of related products. American shipbuilding companies and some members of Congress believe that exemptions weaken the protection of the domestic shipping industry under the Jones Act.
