The Sandbox has suspended cross-chain bridging with Base and BNB Chain after discovering a bridging vulnerability. South Korean exchanges Upbit and Bithumb subsequently froze deposits and withdrawals of SAND, with Upbit also halting SAND transactions on the Ethereum chain. The Sandbox clarified that the Ethereum chain itself was not affected. Cross-chain bridges, which transfer funds by locking and issuing wrapped tokens on both ends, are often targeted in attacks. Upbit's freeze is based on South Korea's Virtual Asset User Protection Act, which allows exchanges to block transfers when an attack has occurred or is likely to occur. The exact amount of losses has not yet been disclosed, and the bridge suspension and exchange freezes remain ongoing.
