The U.S. Treasury Department announced an expansion of sanctions against Iran, targeting five key sectors: digital assets, technology, aviation, gold, and shipping. These secondary sanctions aim to cut off Iran's overseas revenue sources and warn foreign institutions conducting business with Iran-related entities that they may face U.S. sanctions. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the new measures will increase the risk of sanctions for related business dealings. Previously, the U.S. sanctioned Iran's largest crypto exchange, Nobitex, accusing it of sanctions evasion, terror financing, and transactions linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The U.S. also revealed that as of May this year, nearly $1 billion in crypto assets tied to Iran had been seized. This round of sanctions also includes multiple digital asset addresses, such as a Bitcoin wallet identified by the U.S. Treasury as being controlled by Arman Kahzadian.
