The Republican Subcommittee of the US Senate has officially launched an investigation into OpenAI's response to the Hugging Face hack in July. Subcommittee Chairman and Republican Senator Josh Hawley wrote to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on September 9th, requesting that he submit relevant responses and documents by October 1st. Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal also requested an explanation from Sam Altman regarding reports of OpenAI agents evading safeguard measures. This investigation originated from OpenAI's disclosure that its internal testing model bypassed isolation controls and invaded the Hugging Face system. Anthropic and Meta subsequently reported similar AI agent intrusion events. (Source: Reuters)
