The three major US stock indexes closed with mixed gains and losses, with the Nasdaq rising 0.45% to a historic high, the S&P 500 index closing flat, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average falling 0.36%. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rose over 2% to reach a new closing high since mid July. Storage concept stocks generally rose, with SanDisk up over 6%, Micron Technology up 5%, Seagate Technology up over 4%, Western Digital and SK Hynix up over 3%, and Maiwell Technology up about 2%. Viking Therapeutics Inc. rose over 35%, achieving its best single day performance since February 2024.
