France and Germany push for EU to implement trade restrictions, China considers countermeasures

--

France and Germany are pushing the EU to adopt new trade restriction tools, while China has stated that it can coordinate and study countermeasures with affected third parties in accordance with WTO rules. The measures mentioned by China include anti discrimination investigations, supply chain security investigations, and foreign subsidy impact reviews. The European Commission's Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, Malos Shevchovic, is about to visit Beijing. Yan Shaohua, deputy director of the China EU Relations Research Center of Fudan University, said that resolving disputes by industry could not break the deadlock, and suggested establishing a comprehensive framework covering trade, investment, services and technology. The framework should reflect China's competitiveness and define acceptable boundaries for both parties. The EU should develop a balanced medium - to long-term roadmap with China instead of unilaterally setting deadlines.
