On September 14th, Japanese stablecoin issuer JPYC provided information to the Japan Fair Trade Commission, explaining the compliance and cost advantages of stablecoin payments in the competition of cashless payments. Since its release in October 2025, JPYC has been used in over 150 stores. Due to the direct transfer of value through blockchain, it does not charge franchise fees to stores, resulting in lower costs compared to existing cashless payments. Some stores hope to return cost savings to customers who use JPYC, but are concerned about violating clauses such as the prohibition of cash discounts in credit card franchise store regulations. JPYC believes that the acceptance of payment methods and pricing is a matter of free business judgment for stores. The 2022 report of the Fair Trade Commission pointed out that prohibiting such behavior under certain circumstances may constitute antitrust issues.
