Bitcoin developers are pushing forward with the BIP-54 soft fork proposal, which aims to fix four consensus rule vulnerabilities that have existed since the protocol was launched in 2009, including time warp attacks, "poisonous" blocks that require long verification times, a 64-byte transaction vulnerability in the Merkle tree, and the replay risk caused by duplicate coinbase transactions. BIP-54 was drafted by developer Matt Corallo in March 2019 and received its BIP number in April 2025. The test vectors were merged at the end of 2025, and testing began on the Bitcoin Inquisition Signet network in February 2026. (Source: CryptoBriefing)
