According to the US Central Command, the US military will begin supporting "Operation Freedom" on May 4th to ensure the freedom of navigation for merchant ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. General Brad Cooper, Commander of the Central Command, stated that this defensive mission is crucial for regional security and the global economy.
