Bitcoin funding rate is lower than SOFR, reducing the attractiveness of spot futures basis trading

According to BIT analysis, the annualized funding rate for Bitcoin is about 2.9%, lower than the 3.7% SOFR. The spread between funding rates and SOFR has turned negative since February 2026, making it difficult for cryptocurrency hedge funds to obtain arbitrage returns through spot futures basis trading.
