[European Parliament Passes Chat Control 1.0 Extension Bill, End-to-End Encrypted Communication Exempted] According to Cointelegraph, on July 10 (UTC+8), the European Parliament passed the Chat Control 1.0 extension bill, allowing tech companies to scan user messages to detect Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), with the validity extended until 2028. The vote result was 276 in favor and 314 against; however, as the threshold of 361 votes against was not met, the bill was passed. The Parliament approved an amendment to exclude end-to-end encrypted communication from the scanning scope. The revised version will be submitted to the European Council for review, and negotiations on the Chat Control 2.0 bill are expected to resume in September.
