[South Korea's Semiconductor Industrial Park Sees Surge in Power Demand, Domestic ESS Market Expected to Exceed 40 Trillion KRW] Odaily Planet Daily reports that South Korea's Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Environment has begun formulating an early power supply plan for the new semiconductor industrial park in the Honam region. The plan aims to determine additional energy storage systems (ESS) and pumped storage projects through the 12th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand. The 11th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand previously estimated that, considering factors such as the construction of the Yongin Semiconductor Industrial Park, South Korea would require a total of 21.75GW of long-duration energy storage systems by 2038. The South Korean government had earlier disclosed that the first-phase power supply target for the semiconductor wafer plant in the Southwest region is 6.3GW. Industry insiders in South Korea predict that the domestic ESS market will expand to over 40 trillion KRW in the future. (ZDNet Korea Semiconductor).
