On July 27th, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority released the "Hong Kong Banking Quantum Readiness White Paper" and announced the Quantum Readiness Index and related support measures. The quantum readiness index score is 2.3 out of 10. The survey shows that 68% of the surveyed banks have relevant knowledge or have entered the planning and trial stage, 32% have not yet started transition work, and about half of the banks have not yet formulated post quantum cryptography (PQC) plans. About half of the bank boards have discussed quantum computing applications, and about one-third of the banks have begun exploring or piloting quantum technology related applications. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority will launch PQC tools and hold workshops with the goal of assisting the banking industry in preparing for the quantum era by 2030.
