According to Bloomberg, the Criminal Investigation Department of the US Internal Revenue Service has warned that scammers are impersonating the agency to steal encrypted wallet assets and identity information through forged letters. The fraudulent letter contains a QR code that guides the recipient to visit a fake website and requires the recipient to register for a non-existent "Digital Asset Compliance Portal" and enter personal information before the deadline. Jarod Koopman, the head of criminal investigation at the US Internal Revenue Service, stated that criminals exploited public trust in government agencies to commit fraud. The infrastructure for this fraud was set up a few days before the letter was sent, and the domain name was registered with a Hong Kong registrar. The fake website was hosted on the Roman network.
