[HSBC Requires Certain Mainland Investment Clients to Submit Source of Funds Declaration, Failure to Submit May Result in Termination of Related Services] BlockBeats News, August 18 – Following the requirement for new account openings to confirm that funds originate from legitimate overseas channels, some banks in Hong Kong have begun implementing source of funds declaration procedures for certain existing mainland investment clients. According to reports, HSBC Hong Kong has recently started notifying certain existing mainland investment clients, requesting them to submit the 'Declaration for Opening/Maintaining Account' via the HSBC Hong Kong App by September 12 and update their contact information. The declaration includes confirming that the funds for investment activities originate from legitimate sources outside mainland China and that the bank may disclose personal information upon request from law enforcement or regulatory authorities. The notice also states that if the declaration is not submitted by August 20, investment-related services may be suspended; if it is still not submitted by September 12, investment-related services may be terminated. In response, on August 18, an HSBC spokesperson exclusively told reporters from National Business Daily: 'When managing investment client relationships, we adhere to relevant regulatory requirements. Therefore, we invite relevant mainland Chinese investors to provide a self-declaration and confirm that the information provided during "Know Your Customer" and "Customer Due Diligence" processes is up-to-date and valid. This helps us continue to provide uninterrupted services to our clients.' HSBC emphasized that this latest declaration requirement applies only to investment service clients.
