Tesla plans to release Cybercab in Austin this month, raising doubts about the safety and regulatory compliance of autonomous driving
Tesla plans to release its autonomous taxi Cybercab in Austin, Texas this month. This model is based on Tesla FSD software and adopts a design without steering wheel and pedals. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating traffic rule compliance issues with Tesla FSD, and Cybercab lacks traditional driving control devices and may be subject to federal vehicle safety regulations in the United States. Tesla's unsupervised Robotaxi has driven approximately 380000 miles, while Waymo has completed over 220 million fully autonomous miles on public roads since 2020. The Verge pointed out that there is uncertainty in the safety and regulatory approval of Cybercab's autonomous driving.
