[South Korean Retail Investors Flock to U.S. Stocks, Betting on SK Hynix ADR; $1.16 Trillion KRW Inflows Trigger Significant Premium] Odaily Planet Daily News – Data from the Korea Securities Depository shows that South Korean retail investors are heavily purchasing ADRs (American Depositary Receipts) of SK Hynix, listed on the Nasdaq in the U.S., leading to a significant premium compared to its domestic stock price in Korea. From July 10, when SK Hynix ADRs were listed on Nasdaq, to August 19, South Korean investors accumulated net purchases of approximately $835 million (about 1.16 trillion KRW) in SK Hynix ADRs, ranking second among U.S. stocks bought by South Korean investors during the same period and accounting for 16.4% of their total net purchases of U.S. stocks. This trend has caused the price gap between SK Hynix ADRs and its domestic stock to widen continuously. On August 19, SK Hynix's domestic stock closed down 9.75% at 1.5 million KRW, while its ADRs in the U.S. market rose 0.35% to close at $156.16. Since one SK Hynix ADR corresponds to 0.1 shares of the domestic stock, the theoretical value of the domestic stock converted from the ADR price should be approximately 10 times the ADR price. However, as of August 19, the domestic stock price was only 6.82 times the converted ADR price, indicating that the ADRs carried a premium of approximately 46.67% compared to the domestic stock.
