The Blockchain Association and CCI have applied for a preliminary injunction to the Sangamon County Circuit Court in Illinois, requesting to suspend the 0.2% digital asset franchise transaction tax that will take effect on January 1, 2027 during the litigation period. This tax law applies to encrypted entities established in Illinois or providing services to residents of the state with an annual total income exceeding $100000. Blockchain Association and CCI, together with the Digital Chamber of Commerce, claimed that the bill violated the federal Internet Tax Exemption Act and the due process and interstate trade provisions in the U.S. Constitution.
