Crypto scam victims recover funds, US law enforcement agencies take over related assets leading to compensation deadlock

In 2022, California resident Nivie Kaul suffered a loss of more than $8 million from an encryption fraud. After the Türkiye court ordered the closure of the wallet containing more than $100 million of encrypted assets, the US law enforcement agency launched the Big Tuna action to take over the wallet and other encrypted assets totaling $225 million, resulting in a deadlock between the ownership of the seized funds and the victim's compensation.
