North Korean hackers posing as recruiters steal over 7,000 crypto wallets worth approximately $10.71 million A joint statement from the U.S. FBI, Japan's National Police Agency, and other international organizations reveals that the North Korean hacker group WaterPlum (also known as Contagious Interview) has been using fake AI, crypto, and NFT company job offers as bait. They lure software developers into taking programming tests or running 'code fixes,' which secretly install malware. The group has infected over 30,000 devices across more than 100 countries and regions, stealing funds or credentials from over 7,000 crypto wallets, with a total amount involved of approximately $10.71 million. The attackers also use AI-generated deepfake faces, voice synthesis, and 'laptop farms' to impersonate remote employees. Authorities advise users who have run related code to immediately create new wallets on separate devices and transfer their assets.
