Hive Digital Technologies appeals to European Commission over Swedish VAT dispute

Bitcoin mining company Hive Digital Technologies has filed a complaint with the European Commission over the Swedish value-added tax dispute. The Swedish Tax Agency has reclassified the data center services of Hive Digital Technologies' two subsidiaries as self operated mining and retroactively applied them to related businesses since 2022, which may result in the need to refund the input value-added tax already refunded to the subsidiaries. Hive Digital Technologies believes that providing computing services to customers through contracts by its subsidiaries is a taxable business. The Swedish court refused to submit the issue to the European Union Court of Justice for review, and Hive Digital Technologies submitted the dispute to the European Commission.
