Spanish police arrest 16-year-old core member of KillSec ransomware organization

Spanish police arrested a 16-year-old Romanian teenager in Alicante, who is the administrator and main operator of the KillSec ransomware organization. Europol controls the organization's servers and leaked websites, and preserves 110 TB of stolen data. This operation involves searches of 8 residences in Spain, Greece, Romania, and the UK, investigating approximately 1000 suspected attacks worldwide, of which around 500 have been confirmed successful. Two suspects in their 20s were arrested in the UK and Romania respectively, and a man of British Dutch nationality was charged and arrested in Puerto Rico. KillSec has been active since around 2024, often demanding ransom in cryptocurrency, and investigators are investigating the funds obtained by the organization. (Source: Decrypt)
