[Cboe Considering Launching VIX-Based Perpetual Futures] According to Bloomberg, Cboe Global Markets is considering launching perpetual futures based on the CBOE Volatility Index (VIX). Currently, it is not possible to directly trade the VIX index itself. Cboe plans to explore listing related contracts once U.S. regulations on perpetual futures become clearer. Rob Hocking, Cboe's Global Head of Derivatives, stated that clients have consistently inquired about ways to gain exposure to VIX spot prices, but there hasn't been a good solution. Perpetual futures could be an excellent option. He also pointed out that options have significant advantages over perpetual futures, including nonlinear returns and the fact that buyers' losses are limited to the option premium paid. He urged regulators to provide clearer guidance on the regulation of perpetual contracts.
