[U.S. Community Bank Organization Sues OCC to Block Crypto Firms from Entering Banking System via Trust Charters] Odaily Planet Daily News: The Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) filed a lawsuit on Friday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia against the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), challenging its authority to grant national trust bank charters to crypto firms and requesting the court to revoke the final rule and Interpretive Letter No. 1176 issued on March 2, 2026. ICBA President and CEO Rebeca Romero Rainey stated that the charters grant crypto firms the credibility of a federal banking license without requiring them to comply with federal deposit insurance, capital and liquidity standards, or the Community Reinvestment Act. ICBA also called for the revocation of Protego Holdings' conditional charter, citing deficiencies in governance and risk controls. The lawsuit involves digital asset companies such as Circle, Ripple, Paxos, Fidelity, BitGo, Kraken's parent company Payward, Block, and World Liberty Financial, which have applied for or received OCC charters. Separately, Senator Elizabeth Warren has accused the approvals of being unlawful, while the industry has raised objections. The OCC is planning to finalize the 'GENIUS Act' stablecoin regulations by November. (Decrypt)
