According to Cointelegraph, Nobitex, Iran's largest cryptocurrency exchange, was founded by members of the Kharrazi family who have close ties to Iran's top leadership. The investigation shows that the platform was created by brothers Ali and Mohammad Kharrazi, and had previously used the surname "Aghamir" to conceal family ties. Nobitex serves over 11 million users, with wartime transaction volumes exceeding $100 million, and is accused of processing transactions related to sanctioned entities, with an estimated scale of $220 million to $366 million. In addition, data shows that wallets related to the Iranian central bank will transfer approximately $200 million in cryptocurrency assets to Nobitex in 2025. Nobitex denies any association with the government, stating that the proportion of illegal transactions is extremely small.
