Republican lawmakers in the United States call for a permanent ban on central bank digital currencies
According to Cointelegraph, Republican lawmakers in the United States have proposed a permanent ban on central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) in the 21st Century Housing Act. Congressman Mike Flood stated that the revised bill aims to eliminate the "implicit green light" for CBDCs. Congressman Warren Davidson believes that the 2030 expiration date is equivalent to providing a development period for CBDCs. The Anti CBDC Surveillance National Act, pushed by Majority Whip Tom Emmer, has passed the House of Representatives but has not yet been approved by the Senate. Emmer warns that CBDC will threaten privacy and economic freedom.
