Solana consensus upgrade Alpenglow has been launched on Devnet and Testnet, with the goal of shortening final confirmation to 150 milliseconds
Solana consensus upgrade Alpenglow has completed the switch on Testnet and Devnet on September 24th and 25th respectively, aiming to reduce the final confirmation time from about 12.8 seconds to about 150 milliseconds. This upgrade allows validators to directly exchange votes instead of writing them as transactions into blocks, enabling consensus to be completed within one to two rounds of voting. Solana Foundation reminds that after the upgrade, the transaction statistics including validator voting may decrease, but user payments and transaction volume may not necessarily decrease. Applications that simply send transactions and read account balances do not need to be migrated. The simulation target is 150 milliseconds, which has not yet been verified in a real mainnet environment. Wallet processing and exchange recharge confirmation may still increase waiting time.
