According to AXIOS citing three informed sources, in mid May, US negotiators bypassed Iranian negotiators and secretly communicated with senior members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps through Iraqi Kurdish Autonomous Region Chairman Nechirwan Barzani in order to reach an agreement to end the war with Iran. The United States and Iran eventually reached a memorandum of understanding, but the memorandum quickly broke down.
