Jack Ma's biggest mistake was letting Justin Sun into Hupan University. What kind of person is Justin Sun? He only sees opportunities—grab onto a thread and he'll pull it for all it's worth. He barely has any connection to Jack Ma, but he acts like Jack is his dad, telling everyone he's Jack Ma's personally mentored disciple. Jack Ma himself has never publicly supported him, yet Justin still shamelessly uses that connection like it's his golden ticket. Hundreds, if not thousands, of entrepreneurs have passed through Hupan University. Who hasn’t met Jack Ma? But Justin Sun is the only one shameless enough to cling to Jack’s name like this, milking it as if he’s Jack’s own son. Eventually, Jack Ma stopped running Hupan University. He realized that this kind of clique-building might seem lively on the surface, but truly capable people don’t bother with Hupan University. Most of the ones who go are just there for one reason: to ride Jack Ma’s coattails and polish their own image.
