[ICBA Sues OCC to Oppose Crypto Charters, CCI Calls It a Hindrance to Innovation] The Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) has filed a lawsuit against the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, opposing the issuance of charters to crypto companies such as World Liberty Financial, Circle, Ripple, BitGo, and Paxos. ICBA CEO Rebeca Romero Rainey stated that the system should not become a backdoor for crypto companies to bypass the Community Reinvestment Act, capital liquidity standards, and FDIC insurance. Ji Hun Kim, CEO of the Crypto Council for Innovation (CCI), described the lawsuit as a means to obstruct payment innovation and financial competition. OCC Comptroller Jonathan Gould has been advancing the implementation of the crypto charter mechanism since taking office in July this year. (Source: Reuters)
