Core members of Qilin ransomware gang arrested in Japan for allegedly extorting $165000 in Bitcoin
A 28 year old core member of the Qilin ransomware gang, a Russian national, was arrested in Japan and extradited to Germany on October 2nd. The man is suspected of hacking into the system of a logistics company in Germany and extorting Bitcoin worth approximately $165000 (approximately 26 million yen). The investigation shows that the man was responsible for building the attack system in the Qilin criminal network and extracting a percentage from the ransom. The Japanese police took control of him during his trip to Osaka in late May, and subsequently transferred him to the German side by ruling of the Tokyo High Court.
